Do we mean the American                war? The Revolution was affected before the war commenced. The Revolution                was in the minds and hearts of the people.&#8221;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Do you remember                the first time you read Charles Dickens opening paragraph to his                book <em>Tale of Two Cities</em>? &#8220;It was the best of times,                it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the                age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch                of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of                Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,                we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all                going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way –                in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some                of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for                good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">It was November                22, 1963 just before 10:30 AM Pacific Standard time; I was sitting                in my English literature class, when those words were forever burned                into my mind. I had no more finished reading Dickens’ opening paragraph                when the school loud-speaker system came on with the disquieting                news that &#8220;President John F. Kennedy has been shot in Dallas,                Texas.&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Within seconds                many of the young ladies in the class began to quietly sob while                an otherwise stunned hush fell over the class. Our literature teacher                then gave permission for the girls to leave the class but told the                males to stay put he had something he wanted to tell us.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">As the last                girl left the room, the door to the classroom was closed and locked.                Turning to those of us remaining; that wise old sage in a controlled                but stern voice said: &#8220;Gentleman, your world is going to change.                I know most of you hunt. I doubt there is anyone here that doesn’t                own a firearm. The day is coming when the Federal government is                going to try and disarm you. I won’t see it, but you will. Mark                my words and be on your guard, the Second Amendment is the only                thing standing between you and the suffering you can’t comprehend.                Class is dismissed.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">What experiences                had brought that literature teacher to make those proclamations,                I’ll never know. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Of course,                we didn’t see any immediate change in our lives. Groups of us still                made the weekly rounds to the Sears’, Wards’, and Penny’s stores                to look at and drool over the racks of firearms. We still bought                our ammunition from these stores or the local gun shops even though                none of us had reached our fourteenth birthday. No one gave us a                second look when a troop of us walked through town carrying our                weapons on the way down to the river to plink at tin cans or to                go bird hunting.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">If we were                approached by a police officer, there was no fear. He was one of                us and would tell us to be careful or warn us of something he had                seen that we needed to know to stay out of harm&#8217;s way. When bird                hunting he would ask us to let him know where the birds were or                to tell us where he had had some success during his hunts. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Life really                hadn’t changed but we often talked about what that literature teacher                had said and we wondered what was going to happen.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">It was as Dickens’                had said, &#8220;the best of times…&#8221; while the worst times were                not having the fifty-five cents it took to buy a box of 22 long                rifle shells to plink with or the ninety-nine cents for a box of                shotgun shells during bird season.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">My, how times                have changed! What we didn’t understand, in those early years, is                that the government is an entity which stays benign only so long                as those who make up its character are so disposed. The very soul,                mind, heart and action of any government are a direct expression                of the morality, or lack of it, by those who make up the government                and those who elect them. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Now, we are                seeing the truth of that statement. Recently, I was sent an article                entitled, &#8220;<a href="http://www.alternet.org/module/printversion/140623/?type=blog">Does                the Right Want a Civil War?</a>&#8221; by one Sara Robinson, Orcinus.                The blog is one long diatribe which blames every recent illegal                shooting on anyone who doesn’t hold her perverted view of reality.                In her words, the Department of Homeland Security was perfectly                correct when it &#8220;expressed their worries about right-wing extremist                violence last April…&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Furthermore,                anyone who objects to the policies being foisted on the American                public doesn’t &#8220;seem to give a damn about the future of this                country, either.&#8221; Sara Robinson condemns any objections as                &#8220;selling hate…without regard for the cultural sewage you&#8217;re                creating, without regard for the way you&#8217;ve polluted the political                landscape, and now apparently without even a moment&#8217;s regard for                the innocent lives that are being lost because you seem bent on                destroying every shred of trust required for our democracy to function.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">It is not my                intent to dispute an obviously sick ideologue who clearly has never                seen what war can do to society. One such as Sara Robinson lives                in a world of morbid paranoia supported by the dementia of those                in the media, DHS, or a number of governmental positions, Federal,                state and local.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">What is relevant                is that it seems to be spreading. How far from social chaos are                we when the question can be asked: &#8220;<a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/06/12/usnews/whispers/main5083962.shtml">Isn&#8217;t                it time we started rounding up promoters of hate before they kill?</a>&#8221;                Bonnie Erbe of CBS isn’t kidding, she means without trial, or without                just cause. She wants people arrested and jailed based simply on                some &#8220;authority’s&#8221; concept of hate. She would be perfectly                happy to incarcerate those who have any opinion contrary to hers                and the present administration.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">It is no wonder                then that &#8220;terrorists&#8221; as defined by the state must be                an ever-expanding all-inclusive term. Between delusional state agents                and rampant governmental paranoia they must try to marginalize and                herd all those they fear into one giant boogeyman. Never realizing                the &#8220;terrorism&#8221; they fear is not a single unified adversary. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">If you think                this isn’t getting a little out of hand consider this; On Friday,                June 19, 2009 the NRA-ILA posted &#8220;<a href="http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=4990">In                Border States, BATFE Asks: &#8220;May We See Your Guns?&#8221;</a></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">It seems that                &#8220;[i]n some cases, agents have asked to enter these people&#8217;s                homes, and requested serial numbers of all firearms the members                possess.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">&#8220;In each                case, the agents were making inquiries based on the number of firearms                these NRA members had <em>recently bought</em>, and in some cases                the agents said they were asking because the members had bought                types of guns that are frequently recovered in Mexico.&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">So who changed?                Was it those of us, who, in our formative years, understood the                inherent danger in the misuse of weapons? Are we who grew up respecting                other’s property rights and the sanctity of life the ones to blame                for the tension being felt in the current social environment? </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">It sure isn’t                those of us who looked to remove ourselves from governmental oversight,                while remaining productive members of society, which entailed avoidance,                as opposed to open violent confrontation with the state. We learned                early the necessity of self-reliance; looking to provide for ourselves                and our community. We knew instinctively that this is the road to                happiness.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">No! What changed                was not us but the state with its support from those statists, conservatives                and progressives who fostered continuing, never-ending oppression,                seeking to place all human activity under political control. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">For a while                it worked, didn’t it? A friend’s correspondence concerning what                has occurred over the last 50 plus years seems more than appropriate.                &#8220;I suspect that some of us recognize that with the term ‘sheeple,’                we herd up.  We&#8217;ve got a shepherd, big government.  That                government even has dogs. ‘Don&#8217;t worry, they&#8217;re not there to attack                you (even though they… look like wolves), they&#8217;re only to protect                you from the wolves.’  And we buy that.  Of course the                shepherd is only willing to expend his time and resources because                he can fleece us and maybe even sell us as mutton!&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">This, by definition,                is that most common and loathsome circumstance known throughout                history as state-sponsored terrorism. With it comes intimidation                of citizens by their government using state resources such as the                police, judiciary, news media and military to quell domestic opposition                to its policies. To that list we can now add the banking system                and domestic thugs funded by the state through &#8220;private community&#8221;                organizations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">The old Literature                teacher was right; to stay in control those in favor of government                domination must find a way to do away with the Second Amendment                right and confiscate private weapons.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">The catch is                that some within the &#8220;herd&#8221; are now starting to question                all those altruistic lies. Why? Maybe it is because they are learning                that they would be better off not sacrificing more wealth for a                new set of lies. Maybe they are beginning to understand that big                government is not the sweet smiling parent figure it has pretended                to be. Maybe people would just like to keep what is theirs.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Could it be                that people are just sick and tired of having a government that                will not listen but continues to act without the consent of the                people? It happened in <a href="http://www.constitution.org/usdeclar.htm">1776</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">Judge Alex                Kozinski of the 9<sup>th</sup> Circuit Court in 2003 wrote in part:</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">&#8220;The                  Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those                  exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed                  – where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences                  those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose,                  or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable                  these contingencies may seem today, <em>facing them unprepared                  is a mistake a free people get to make only once.</em>&#8221; (Emphasis                  mine) </span></p></blockquote>

<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;"> I have alluded                before that we live in the country and have occasion to run across                orphaned animals. We have horses and chickens and other assorted                animals on the <a href="http://anti-state.com/forum/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=13981">Circle                A</a> Ranch. My wife happens to be a fantastic gardener and the                reincarnation of Dr. Doolittle. We discovered by following the horrid                cacophony of rabbit screams three orphaned cottontails, two of which                promptly died. My wife is now nursing the survivor and hoping to                brighten his life expectancy in this mortal coil. As is her wont,                she is an inveterate researcher and proceeded to go on the ’net                and search out advice on care and feeding of a rabbit which is not                one of our areas of husbandry expertise. What struck her were the                countless admonitions to seek government assistance and report it                to wildlife &#8220;authorities&#8221; or the zoo. I look around and                converse with colleagues and associates to find my fellow Americans                increasingly frightened or unfamiliar with doing anything without                someone’s permission. Whether at work or play, we:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;"> obey <a href="http://www.motorists.org/">speed                  limits</a> that have nothing do with safety and simply provide                  revenue to our rulers</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;"> pay <a href="http://www.taxtyranny.ca/favicon.ico">property                  taxes</a> which inevitably increase the yoke around our necks                  locally and pay for the intellectual suicide pact call government                  schooling</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">pay extraordinary                  <a href="http://www.taxfoundation.org/favicon.ico">sales taxes</a> on local and state purchases to subsidize the countless layers                  of bureaucracy that choke citizen and business productivity everyday </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">stop locally                  at a US Border Patrol checkpoint nearly twenty miles north of                  the Mexican border to be asked if we are American citizens and                  a visual check of the interior of our vehicles</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">sit idly                  by while the various levels of government erect <a href="http://www.highwayrobbery.net/">observation                  devices</a> at traffic intersections to increase revenue streams</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">receive                  <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601213&amp;sid=aWSD3gPg9s7o">property                  tax bills</a> on our real estate which increase in assessment                  while market prices decrease</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">are required                  to have permission from the US Forest Circus or National Park                  Service to hunt, play or work on lands expropriated by our betters                  in government </span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;"> I have discovered                the silver bullet and it is from the University of the Intuitively                Obvious: question authority and maintain a skeptical attitude about                all facets of government and governance. That’s it…simple. Even                those of us who have invested considerable intellectual heavy-lifting                in discerning why the government in all its consistent brutality                and blood-raged destruction commands such a loyal and slavish quality                in men are baffled by the absence of this simple epistemological                tool to ask why on a consistent basis from stem to stern. If enough                vigilance is maintained at the outset and embryonic stages of so                much government mischief, much of the madness could be strangled                in its statist cradle through peaceful discourse, non-compliance,                shunning and development of innovative strategies to sabotage the                government’s machinations. Most government programs start out with                promises of nirvana and positive outcomes but the history of man                shows that this is essentially <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iatrogenesis">iatrogenic</a> and hubristic. The state is a violent actor by necessity to preserve                its power and expand it, so inevitably the promises dissolve into                a nightmarish brew of incompetence, lethality and baleful societal                consequences and we are stuck with the myriad Frankenstein monsters                shambling about with the vague promises of eternal goodness and                heaven on earth.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">One may say                that the horse is out of the barn and we are truly stuck with the                state of affairs and no amount of reform will fix DC and its loyal                minions at this stage of their maturation and dominance and you                would be correct. The rub is this: the FEDGOD will fall and it will                be in the next 12–24 months and much like the USSR, it will perish                of its own <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Knowledge-Decisions-Thomas-Sowell/dp/0465037380/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1245689128&amp;sr=8-1">internal                Marxoid contradictions</a>. Foreign wars, self-induced economic                calamity and sheer naked arrogance will force it to fold and dissolve                as a ruling elite. This is a window that rarely opens and the opportunities                will be tremendous – for both sides. The furloughed politicos will                spread their contagion when they flee the ruins of the DC power                structure and seek to encourage the usual suspects among government                workers and gullible subjects to help resurrect this monstrosity                that has been astride our necks like a decomposing <a href="http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/326766/albatross_around_ones_neck_the_origin.html">albatross</a>.                Truth serum will be necessary and that all starts with the kind                of skepticism and incredulity that seems to characterize most everything                we do except our attitude toward our rulers. Cross-examination is                the engine of truth. Question every bit of alleged government authority                which emerges from the ashes. This is one reason <a href="http://www.monticello.org/reports/quotes/liberty.html">Thomas                Jefferson</a> was agitating for constant revolt for the tree of                liberty. Government is a fungal growth that cannot be checked without                constantly striking the root and taking whatever measures are necessary                to curb its growth.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;">You won’t find                this kind of critical thinking taught in the universities or any                facet of the school systems because skepticism and clear thinking                will be the end of them and the whole rotting mold growth choking                American civilization called government. When was the last time                you saw a government sponsored university study which called for                the reduction and/or elimination of a statist rule or department?                You don’t have to be a philosophy major or graduate to realize that                <a href="http://www.criticalthinking.org/store-page.cfm?P=products&amp;ItemID=296&amp;catalogID=217&amp;cateID=132">Socratic                drilling</a> works. This is simply the process where you repeatedly                ask <em>why</em> to a set of explanations until either you are satisfied                the meritorious answer has been given or the shoddy intellectual                construction is bared for all to see. It bears repeating: the entire                artifice of the state is based on the threat or employment of violence                to meet its ends, so it is morally illegitimate and reprehensible                from the starting blocks. You have the moral high ground because                all government for the most part is an elaborate shell game to develop                proxy relationships with servant classes who obey at the urging                of a lash or worse for the material and power benefit of the ruling                class. Wake up, <a href="http://www.livius.org/so-st/sparta/helots.html">helots</a>!</span></p>

A dozen, fifty or hundreds of resistance and secessionist                entities are going to move into the vacuum left by the great sucking                abyss of the FEDGOD collapse. Hundreds of laboratories will emerge                to test every variant of political collective and ordered enterprise                imaginable. I have little hope for the subjects and somnambulant                mental zombies that stumble around the cities of the Left Coast                and the Northeast (Vermont and New Hampshire excepted) will do anymore                other than instantly resurrect facsimiles of DC patterns of rule                and other processes of national socialism but between the Marxist                coastlines; the life and times of ordinary Americans will take extraordinary                turns to develop from scratch freedom-oriented communities and spasms                of spontaneous order. People may finally awaken and look at their                neighbors and try to do the right thing. They may seek a system                that asks, persuades and cooperates instead of bullies, collectivizes                and forces through violent means the shape and texture of human                relationships. They will be the vanguard of the men and women who                finally awaken from the five millennia fever-dream of enabling various                strangers the power of <a href="http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills">life                and death</a> over thousands and millions simply because they have                surrendered the most basic right of all; leave us the hell alone. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,Times,serif; font-size: small;"> Turn off the                television, grab a book(s) and have conversations with family and                like-minded friends. Go out and do things. Start a garden, fix your                fencing, move to the country and reach out to the community you                live in. Open your mind to the possibilities before us. Most of                all, question every aspect of your relationship with authority.                Does it derive from fear or respect? Does it emanate from first-hand                experience or second-hand knowledge? How many times have you truly                asked why a certain bureaucratic edict must be followed? More importantly,                what is your line in the sand where your servitude stops and your                resistance begins? Just say no to big government. Once a man establishes                his limitations for tolerance of interference in his life and adopts                a resolute stand against the forces buffeting him against his will,                the world will change.</span></p>

<p>TOPEKA | Next year, Kansans will vote whether to change the state constitution to guarantee individual gun rights.</p>
<p>&#8220;It is the law of the land today in every state. They (supporters) would like to make sure it stays that way in Kansas,&#8221; said Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt, an Independence Republican.</p>
<p>Supporters of a resolution that passed the House and Senate say the move is needed in case the U.S. Supreme Court ever decides that the Second Amendment does not protect individual gun ownership. In 2008, the court ruled that the Bill of Rights covers an individual&#8217;s right to own firearms.</p>
