Candle Care

* Trimming Wicks – Long, crooked wicks cause uneven burning and/or dripping. For clean and even burning, trim wicks to .5cm (1/4″) before each burn. Refer to guide for types to trim.

* Hugging – 3-wick and round pillar candles require a small amount of care to assist a even burn. Once the candle has been lit for a few hours, gently press the soft wax inward around the edges to maintain a flat surface. Do not hug square candles.Refer to guide for types to hug.

* Burning times – The first time a pillar is lit it should be for only 5 or 10 minutes, gradually increasing the burn time for the next 4 or 5 times until the bell top is gone. As a general guide, burn pillars, square and 3 wick candles long enough each time to allow the wax to liquify to the edges – approximately 1 hour for each 2.5cm of candle diameter. Don’t let the wax melt through the sides of the candle. Remember to keep a flat surface, not a well.

* Appropriate containers – Always use the correct holder for the candle. A votive holder that is too wide will leave the liquid wax too far from the flame, whilst a holder that is too small may become very hot during burning. Always ensure that candles are placed on heat resistant surfaces during the burn.

* Removing carbon – If carbon builds on the wick, extinguish candle, allow to cool, trim wick tip for clean and even burn and relight. Refer to guide for types to trim.

* Avoid fadeing and warping – Don’t place candles close to or on heat sources – such as radiators, direct sunlight, fires or electrical equipment.

* Dripping – To avoid dripping wax, place candles away from airconditioners and draughts. If dripping does occur, wait until the wax cools before removing the excess.

* Storage – Keep candles in a cool dry place. In fact, if you refrigerate your candles they will burn for longer. Wrap them in aluminium foil or cling wrap (to prevent cracking) – but DO NOT freeze.
